世界大学生运动会包括夏季运动会、冬季运动会，每两年举办一届，只限在校大学生和毕业不超过2年的大学生（年龄17—28岁）参加。大运会所有必选竞赛项目全部是奥运项目，竞赛管理由国际单项体育组织按照奥运标准实施，是规模仅次于奥运会的世界综合性运动会，截止至2022年3月，从1959年起至今已举办30届。
